Vancouver "general area" was often referred to as the "GVRD"
for short... later, in the 1960's, the B.C. Govt. decided to work towards a more centralized/co-operative form of regional
government, and after approx. 2 years of planning, local Govt. entities
formed the Greater Vancouver Regional
District Municipal Authority, which is often referred to as
"the GVRD" for short.
The initials "GVRD"
also
have a long history in Vallejo
California, which is an area around the North-East
San Francisco Bay area...
"the GVRD" in the Bay Area has been in operation since the
1940's.
The initials "GVRD"
are probably the single most commonly used acronym used to refer to
the general area around Greater Vancouver... currently, there are
around 2 million people who reside in the Greater Vancouver general area.
