The City of Vancouver is bringing in a consultant to the look at
the impact of sending all of Metro Vancouver's garbage to the City's
landfill in Delta.
NPA Councillor Suzanne Anton says the City should have had a bigger
say on the idea after Metro Vancouver voted to stop sending its trash
to the Interior, "There will be significant repercussions for the
Municipality of Delta, for the City of Vancouver, for the financing of
it, for the length of time that it can be open, for all the operating
certificates and environmental clearances and First Nations and
everything else relating to that landfill."
Another short-term option suggested was to ship the region's garbage
to Washington State, but Anton says most Metro Vancouver Board
Directors were not keen on that idea. |
